Decentralisation as the new road map
In 2009, Grundfos BioBooster will set up a test site at the municipal wastewater treatment plant (MWWTP) in Bjerregrav, Viborg Municipality, Denmark. This is the outcome of a cooperation agreement between the two parties this autumn. The pilot test is scheduled to be carried out during a 6-month period in 2009. Based on a no-cure-no-pay principle, much is to be gained from this mutual agreement.
“The municipal sector is a new market for us, and we are keen to demonstrate that not only can our technology withstand the municipal load but also treat the wastewater to satisfactory levels. We are always on the lookout for new ventures, and via this cooperation we are able to secure a continuous development of our fundamental concept, namely decentralised wastewater treatment”, says Karen Skriver, Global Sales and Marketing Manager at Grundfos BioBooster.
The underlying principle of decentralisation is that future expansion of MWWTPs can be supplemented with decentralised wastewater treatment plants scattered across the municipality – even on industrial grounds. This minimises the investment in civil works and infrastructure. Also, new MWWTPs do not have to be overly dimensioned, and the possibility for water reuse application ensures a sustainable solution particularly in areas with water shortages.
